 LESSONS

Here at Longshaw Riding School we have a dedicated team to ensure we teach to the highest standard. We structure all our lessons to suit your required needs.
We take children from 4 years to adults and beginners to advanced.
We offer 1/2 hr or 1hr private, semi-private and group lessons.

All group lessons are split according to age and ability of riders.

At any time throughout the lesson, if you are unsure of anything please don’t hesitate to ask, our staff are very friendly and will take the time to explain anything you are not clear of.

At the end of each lesson feedback will be given and questions answered, to ensure you have understood the lesson; this will help riders to be able to progress with their riding.

Children’s lessons

Children’s lessons run every day
Monday – Friday 3:30pm – 5:30pm
Saturday & Sunday 9:00am – 5:30pm

For children from 4years we offer ½ hr walk outs, this is a great way for them to get used to horses and to help build their confidence. It is also a fun and enjoyable way to start riding. While on their walk out they will be taught how to sit, hold the reins, steering and arm signals.

For children from 5 – 6 years they have the option to start on a walk out or join into a ½ hr group lesson. They will be taught the basic skills of riding such as:
how to mount & hold the reins, position, steering, rising trot etc...

For children from 10 years + they will have the option of ½ hr private lessons then joining a ½ hr or 1 hr group lesson or joining a group lesson to start off with.
They will be taught how to:
mount, position, steering, rising trot and working up to cantering etc....

We encourage group lessons as riding with others can benefit your riding skills when having to work around other riders and horses.

Adult’s lessons

Adult lessons run every day
Monday – Friday 9:30am -2:30pm
Tuesday & Thursday evenings 6:00pm – 8:00pm
Saturday & Sunday 9:00am – 5:30pm

Adult Beginner riders

We recommend all adults wishing ride, start by having private lessons so that you can build confidence and begin at your own pace.
The first lesson will consist of:

·         Preparing the horse before mounting

·         How to mount correctly and safely

·         How to check girth, adjust stirrups

·         How to hold the reins

·         Correct position when mounted

·         The aids of how to make the horse walk and turn

·         Begin working up to trotting

·         Lessons will conclude with feedback and any questions you may have and how to dismount correctly and safely

·         Each lesson will then progress on from the last, learning and progressing new skills.

  Adult Intermediate riders

For riders who have already learnt the basic skills of riding will be required to have a 30min assessment lesson. Once the assessment is complete you then have the option of either joining into a group of adults which are the same standard or continue on with private lessons learning new skills at your own pace.

Adult Advanced riders

For advanced riders who want to improve their skills or move on to different challenges, you will be required to have a 30 min assessment. Once the assessment is complete you have the option of either joining into a group of adults which are the same standard or continue on with private lessons to improve areas of weakness and learn new skills at your pace.

Late night lessons are also available on Tues/Thurs evenings from 6 - 8pm (March - October only)
